#GR6
Run-on sentence
A run-on sentence crams two or more complete sentences together with too little — or the wrong — punctuation between them, so the reader can't tell where one idea ends and the next begins. Our mainframes flag this as #GR6, and in IELTS Writing Task 2 it counts against Grammatical Range & Accuracy every single time.
Each item shows a run-on sentence. Retype it correctly fixed — capitalisation and the final punctuation mark don't need to match exactly, but every word and its position does.
Exam result
Step 1 Find every independent clause — a chunk with its own subject and verb that could stand alone.
Step 2 Decide how closely the ideas relate: separate points (period), tightly linked (semicolon), or one caused by the other (comma + conjunction, or subordination).
Step 3 Rewrite with that fix — read it aloud once to check it no longer sounds breathless.
In your next essay, read each sentence aloud — if you run out of breath before a natural stop, you've probably found a run-on. Fixing it will drop this error's count in your writing passport.
