Grammatical Range & Accuracy · IELTS Writing Task 2

Short, simple sentences are safe — and capped. Our mainframes flag #GR2 when an essay leans on basic sentence patterns and never builds a relative clause, a conditional, or a passive, and in IELTS Writing Task 2 it counts against Grammatical Range & Accuracy every single time.

Each item builds one complex structure out of a simpler idea. Type only what goes in the gap — a connector, a pronoun, or a verb form.

Exam result

Step 1 Find two short, related ideas in your draft that sit in separate sentences.
Step 2 Pick the structure that fits: relative clause, subordinator, conditional, participle, or passive.
Step 3 Combine them into one sentence — cut what the structure makes redundant.

In your next essay, aim for at least one relative clause, one subordinator, and one passive per paragraph — and watch your range score move in your writing passport.
